Last sunday i managed to convince the family to watch 'How to marry a millionaire' with me. I love the film and thought my children were ready to be introduced to it's delights. I am sorry to say, i ended up being the only person left in the room within about the first five minutes!. It didn't ruin it for me though and the peace meant, not only did i get the chance to enjoy the film i could really look and appreciate just how fabulous the clothes are.At one point all three of the main cast -( Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall) are in a shop fashion show and all look fabulous. If i had to choose whose wardrobe i would have i think it would be Marilyns..I dream of having clothes like that! or a figure like Betty Grable!
The hair styles make my heart skip a beat too.
This is how we should all spend a saturday afternoon.!
I am sorry to say i actually don't like the wedding dress and feel Lauren Bacall is up staged by Marilyn.
sometimes it doesn't matter how many vintage dresses you find in charity shops, Etsy or eBay etc you can not find anything quite as good/authentic or that fits right.
I really hope to help and encourage people to make their own. By making your own clothes you can make sure the fit is pefect, the colour suits and the style shouts 'me' to whoever you are and what ever your shape and style.
i will be attempting to make a real dress that looks as good as any of the outfits worn in this film!
i need a miracle! ha
See the film it's fab and pick your favourite outfit!
I need the waist before i attempt the dress!
ReplyDeleteI've not actually seen this film, looks like a must see now! Have you see Dee Dee's Vintage Retro Delights blog she makes her own dresses like these?

ReplyDeleteGreat film and I agree lots of fabulous clothes! Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteLooks like that needs to go on my films to watch list.
ReplyDeletePeace to watch a film, how lovely. Mine would start nagging to watch Postman Pat instead! Do you know I'm not sure if I've seen 'How to marry a Millionaire', must rectify that soon.
ReplyDeleteI've got the film to watch on our DVD hard drive - can't wait! I'm also in the middle of making a top - not a vintage one- but still a top. Having a torrid time with it, I must admit, but today, I had a bit of a breakthrough, so am getting there (v. slowly). Have a great weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteAaahhhh hello, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a little comment. Im loving your blog to, i have never seen this film but i will be checking it out now ;-) I agree with you about vintage clothes fitting although because of my shape and size i do find some of the vintage dresses do fit me like a glove but its lovely to make them yourself and such a good feeling. I will look forward to reading your future posts. Have a lovely weekend, dee x
ReplyDeleteI dream of having wardrobes like that. Somehow I end up making comfy clothes or more modern styles. I find it hard to get my littlies to appreciate the golden oldie kids' movies (Mary Poppins) let alone anything else from that era.
ReplyDeleteI love this film, one of my favs. I wish I had the time to make things like this. I have got will, a bit of skill, tools and patterns. just no damn time at the moment. :( Look forward to seeing the end result.
