shorts house work and letting go

Hello from sunny South London! The summer seems to be coming back again and my daughter requested I make her some shorts. She choose the bonehead fabric from Michael Miller. The pattern was from a sewing magazine and very easy to follow. In the picture they are not finished, but bucking my usual trend, they are now. I will share the finished next time. They must be ok as I have already been asked for another pair..
I have been tidying up and cleaning at lot this holiday. Being a teacher in a really stressful environment, a single mum, and having my own business means housework often takes a back burner, so its nice to have things clean and organised for a change, My children do like to ruin it all again though....

I have the best dog in the world and he is so much fun but also really chilled. Something I am hoping will one day rub of on me. I would like a little rant here about certain things, but for now I will do 'a frank'. Make a cuppa and breathe. Maybe make the shorts or maybe something else... sewing calms me and the satisfaction from a make gives me a buzz.

looking up

Above is a picture of my lovely sisters new kitten leo. He has the most amazing colouring. I popped over to get my hair done - away grey away! and got  a little pic of him. Today has been one of racing round to post offices - one to pic up a package. then to another to send my winners their prizes and some ebay sales.
i made this picture below just using a very torn up old book. I did still feel bad ripping the pages out. ripping books feels soooo wrong. ! I like how it turned out - sorry you get to see the sideways look!
I really want a camera as i still use my phone, which shows doesn't it?. My friend had a lovely one on saturday at our end of year staff party, that i oooood and arrrrred over. I thought to myself  'i will have one those thank you very much', and so enquired politely about price etc.................her NEW boyfriend bought it for her £600!(and he is really nice too) so i will not be improving my images for a while (unless i find a new rich boyfriend (oops! not really Joe))
I have made a new skirt and really like the lip shaped top. Its from a pattern that i will soon be selling so look out for my next blog if you fancy a go.
When making it you had to sew all the pieces together. so if i was run over by a steam roller this is what i would look like!
ok my lovely blog readers have a fabuloous evening. i am of to read your posts

the ups and downs of making my first dress

I have had a busy day trying to make my first dress.

The dress Pattern all laid out making me scratch my head. Luckily my mum came over to help, despite declaring she hadn't made a dress for 30 years. It did seem at times that it was the blind leading the blind! But mum was much better than me!

I decided to trace over the pattern and cut the tracing paper, that way i can use the pattern again if successful... I was happy with all the fabric cut out and the pockets put in their correct position.
Lettice tried to get my attention..
Mum had now gone home and i was left to fit the top straps. AND yes, you got it, i got flustered and gave up!
i did do the hem (even i can do a hem!)
And did sew on the pockets..

Now its gone 8 in the evening and i still have to write my business plan (boring!).

i will do the neck of dress as i really want to wear it (as suggested i will wear over jeans until i win the lottery when i will wear it on a beach in thailand...).

makes and kittens

the kittens are all doing well and are very sweet. They are now on solids, and learning to use the litter tray. Which they better get better at soon, as i keep finding little brown 'left behinds' on the floor.
We still haven't got homes for them all and I am a bit worried that we may end up the mad cat family if we are not careful.
This morning their was a big crash while we were enjoying a lie in....the little cute tiny kittens had managed to knock over a picture i had made, and had balanced in the fire place.

Luckily they had just knocked it over making it come away from the frame. The material has all moved around, and a few of the bits had fallen of. I will be able to fix it and will do later tonight if i get the chance. It's not very proffessional but i like it! I did it after a lovely day trip to the beach and it is only the second picture i have done like this.
After all the damage the terrible three did i still let them have breakfast..
and no broken glass so i sneaked back to bed.

Albert tried to look innocent..but i think he was probably the ring leader
i did make a couple of christmas decorations. last year i made a few of these dogs and did manage to sell a couple.

the mushroom may not look that christmasy but it will suit my tree.

i love this dog - he is plain but sweet. (see how i have done dogs not cats..)

I have nearly finished a soldier decoration.
using my usual way - drawing out a template for the clothes

and the body

cutting out the felt

the features all sewn on - i just need to sew together now

while Lettice sleeps in her basket with her dog friends...
